Sherborne Abbey
Widely regarded as one of the finest achievements of one of today’s pre-eminent composers, MacMillan’s Seven Last Words from the Cross for choir and strings uses traditional text based on a compilation from all four gospels to form a sequential presentation of the last seven sentences uttered by Christ. The work was commissioned by BBC Television and broadcast during Holy Week of 1994.
Our performance will form part of Holy Week worship in Sherborne Abbey. Presented as a meditation, the seven movements will be linked with readings, the service being expected to last approximately an hour.
There will be a retiring collection to help defray the costs of mounting this event.
