Sherborne Abbey
A performance of one of the greatest works in the repertoire, the week before Palm Sunday.
The first of Bach’s two surviving Passion settings to be written, the St John Passion was first performed in Holy Week 1724, as part of a church service, and shows Bach’s towering imagination at its most intensely dramatic, creating a moving and vivid account of the Passion story.
The choir will be joined by an orchestra of period instrumentalists and leading soloists for this performance, which will be sung in the original German.
