Benjamin Britten A Boy was Born
This work consists of a sequence of five highly individual and virtuoso variations based on a theme familiar to many thanks to its inclusion in the legendary ‘Carols for Choirs’ collection. The girls of St Antony’s Leweston Schola join us in this performance.
Peter Maxwell Davies The Kestrel Road
This work has been jointly commissioned by 50 UK choirs with Making Music (the National Federation of Music Societies), to celebrate Max’s 70th birthday. It is a song-cycle of poems by Orkney poet George Mackay Brown and written ‘in Max’s most accessible style’, as the press release goes! Further details at the composer’s own web site – click here. The Oxford Pro Musica Singers are giving the premier on 7th September, for broadcast on Radio 3.
J.S. Bach Singet dem Herrn BWV 225
Probably one of Bach’s most lively motets scored for for double choir.
