Wells Cathedral
With East Cornwall Bach Choir
Organ improvisations played by David Bednall
The East Cornwall Bach Choir is based in Liskeard and both choirs share the same conductor. This sublime piece provides a great opportunity for both choirs to sing together in the atmospheric setting of Wells Cathedral.
Rachmaninov’s All Night Vigil, now commonly known as the Vespers, was written in 1915 during a particularly Russian-inspired period of composing. The work evokes an archaic air, with sumptuous harmonies, deep bass lines and Orthodox chant, which are all the more poignant in light of the Russian Revolution which was to follow.
We hope to arrange an audience coach from Sherborne. If you would be interested in this, please contact the choir for more information.
