Sherborne Abbey
Haydn The Creation
With period orchestra
Soprano Sarah Poole, Tenor Julian Podger, Bass Thomas Guthrie
We are delighted to be involved in a brand new venture as part of the 2006 Sherborne Abbey Music Festival, with the inaugural performance of the Festival Chorus. Directed by Paul Ellis, the Chorus is destined to become an integral part of the Festival and should provide a great opportunity for local people to take part. Haydn’sCreation has been a favourite with both choirs and audiences since its first performance, 206 years to the day before this concert. From its initial ‘Representation of Chaos’, to the final depiction of the innocent joys of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, this great oratorio offers a unique musical depiction of the book of Genesis, with a text drawn both from the Bible and Milton’s Paradise Lost. With a large period orchestra, this promises to be a memorable concert for chorus and audience alike.
