Sherborne Abbey
With Baroque orchestra led by Alison Bury
and Sherborne Young Singers
A rare opportunity in the South West to hear this great work performed in its entirety, in German. First performed in Leipzig in 1727 on Good Friday, it is one of the masterpieces of sacred music and as relevant today as then. More contemplative than the dramatic St John Passion, its portrayal of Christ’s betrayal, trial and execution contains some of Bach’s most moving and powerful music.
Evangelist Nicholas Hawker
Christus Robert Evans
Soprano Julie Cooper
Alto Tim Carleston
Tenor Gareth Treseder
Bass Craig Bissex
Please note the earlier than usual start time of 7pm. We expect the performance to finish at approximately 10pm.
